SEATTLE — The Portland office of Stacy and Witbeck submitted the low bid yesterday for the Point Defiance Bypass project.
Stacy and Witbeck's bid was $53.8 million, nearly $20 million below the engineer's estimate. The only other bidder, RailWorks Track Systems of Chehalis, came in at $73.3 million.
The Sound Transit project will reroute passenger trains inland, away from the shoreline in Tacoma.
It is part of a larger project that will improve tracks and systems so that Amtrak can add two roundtrip trains between Seattle and Portland, and reduce travel time between the cities.
