This fall, Olympic College plans to start a new multidisciplinary academic building called College Instruction Center on the main campus at the north end of Bremerton near the U.S. Naval base.

Bids are due July 30, according to a notice in the July 2 DJC.

The total project is estimated to cost $50.1 million. Construction could cost between $34 million and $38 million.

Schacht Aslani Architects designed the three-story, 70,000-square-foot building.

The firm said in a press release that it will house a 276-seat theater and instructional space for fine art, music and health occupations.

A two-story atrium will open onto the campus spine, serving as a theater lobby and gathering space as well as helping to create a sense of community. The center also will house a state-of-the art active learning classroom.

Schacht Aslani called this a pivotal project for the college.

Site work will include a new city street, bus turn-around, pedestrian promenade and parking.

The team will seek a LEED gold rating, with elements that include 90 percent heat recovery, a 100-kilowatt solar array and LED lighting throughout the building.

Here is the rest of the team: Nakano Associates, landscape architect; Coughlin Porter Lundeen, civil engineer; Magnusson Klemencic Associates, structural engineer; PAE Engineers, mechanical and plumbing engineer; Tres West Engineers, electrical engineer; Auerbach Pollock Friedlander, theater consultant.

Olympic College is a two-year community college that educates more than 13,000 students a year, with campuses in Bremerton, Poulsbo and Shelton.
