High school students in Woodland were treated to a new school on Wednesday as they returned for fall classes.

The new Woodland High School at 1500 Dike Access Road replaces the 1950s high school at 757 Park St. that will be reconfigured into a middle school.

Skanska built the 154,000-square-foot replacement school for about $45 million. The 41-acre campus has a two-story main building, a horticulture/greenhouse, grandstand, football field surrounded by a running track, softball and baseball fields, a batting cage, several practice fields and a discuss/javelin area.

The new school serves 650 students, but has classrooms for 900 and space to build another wing that would push capacity to 1,200 students. There is also room for future tennis courts.

McGranahan Architects was the designer. Other team members were: HDJ Design Group, civil engineer; Kramer Gehlen & Associates, structural engineer; BCE Engineers, mechanical and electrical; and Murase Associates, landscape architect.
