Clallam County PUD No. 1 held a grand opening on Saturday for its new headquarters in the Carlsborg area west of Sequim.
Neeley Construction Co. of Puyallup built the 29,500-square-foot office at 104 Hooker Road, along with a 3,700-square-foot addition to the nearby engineering department and a new 5,900-square-foot substation shop. The engineering addition included 2,200 square feet of remodeled space and a 1,300-square-foot mezzanine.
Neeley was the lowest of five bidders on the project, at $10.24 million. The final tab came in at $10.65 million. The engineer's estimate was $12.6 million.
Lawhead Architects of Bellevue was the designer.
The new facilities are expected to cost the average PUD customer less than $1 a month.
The PUD said fixing the old 1960s headquarters building in Port Angeles and expanding to create one-stop customer service for electric, water and sewer would have cost the same as building the new headquarters.
The PUD wants to build a new operations facility in the Forks area within five years, and has bought a site in the Forks Industrial Park for that. It also wants to build a new auto shop in the Carlsborg area in the next five-plus years.
