Redside starts Bainbridge Island park makeover

It looks like some workers from Redside Construction will spend their summer at the park.

But it won't be beer and bratwurst on the menu: Redside earlier this year won a $1.6 million contract from the city of Bainbridge Island for improvements at Eagle Point Waterfront Park. Those improvements will add ADA-compliant concrete pathways, expand seating, enhance water views and install stormwater treatment systems. Other work will improve open space for civic events and unprogrammed recreation.

Redside started the project this week with pruning and removal of dead or dying trees and brush clearing. Workers don't have long commutes since Redside's offices are at 600 Winslow Way E., less than a half-mile from the park that is south of the ferry dock near downtown.

Much of the park will be fenced off and closed around July 5 — and is expected to remain closed through mid-November. The city says working during the summer will get the project finished faster and cheaper.

Walker Macy is the lead consultant and landscape architect.

The team includes Patano Studio Architecture, architect; Browne Wheeler Engineers, civil engineer; PAE and Luma Lighting Design, lighting; Lund Opsahl, structural engineer; and JMB Consulting, cost estimator.
