Tiger Construction & Excavation of Redmond on Tuesday is expected to start demolishing Bothell Mall, which was heavily damaged in a July 22 fire along with the adjacent Mercantile Building at 102nd Avenue Northeast and Main Street.

Bothell Mall housed about 15 businesses. A city of Bothell spokesperson said the city hasn't been notified by the mall owner if it plans to rebuild. She said the building and debris could be cleared as early as Sept. 9.

Construction was underway on Goodman Real Estate's Mercantile Building when the fire broke out at that jobsite and spread to the mall across the street. Goodman was building 122 apartments behind the retained brick facade of the century-old Mercantile Building.

Venture General Contracting had built two levels of concrete parking garage and 3.5 floors of wood frame apartments when the fire hit. An on-site crane melted from the heat and was removed late last month. The old brick facade has been deemed structurally sound.

The city spokesperson said Mercantile project will be rebuilt. It was designed by Grouparchitect.

A section of 102nd that was closed for safety reasons could reopen on Wednesday.

Investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have not determined the cause of the fire.
