Urban Renaissance Group HQ

Urban Renaissance Group has expanded its headquarters in the Joshua Green Building at 1425 Fourth Ave. in Seattle.

URG moved from an 8,000-square-foot space on the fifth floor to a 13,000-square-foot space on the second floor of the historic building, which URG restored and repositioned in 2009.

The new space was switched from retail to office use. The design focused on revealing the original architecture, while taking advantage of expansive windows and large skylights.

An open kitchen was designed as a center hub for the office, with a mural by a local artist. Two old skylights were cleared, and a third was added.

The team uncovered the original terrazzo floor tile dating back to the early 1900s. The renovation also removed previous ceiling systems to reveal the frame and structure, as well as seismic bracing added during the restoration. Exposed cross-braces around the perimeter are painted in dark accent color.

Owner: Urban Renaissance Group

Designer: IA Interior Architects

General contractor: Unimark Construction

Art mural: Sam Wood Wilson
