The Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections hired Kai Ki Mow as principal engineer and promoted Ardel Jala to building official. Mow will provide technical leadership for engineering-related portions of Seattle's building codes, as well as leadership for SDCI's Emergency Response program. He has seven years of engineering plan review experience with the city of Bellevue and 13 years of engineering design experience prior to that. He also is a registered civil and structural engineer. Jala will provide technical leadership for the portions of Seattle's building codes not directly related to engineering. She has been with SDCI for nine years, most recently as an engineering and technical codes manager. Prior to joining the city, she spent over 15 years in design and project management for local engineering firms. She also is a registered civil engineer. Both will start their new roles on Wednesday. They will replace Jonathan Siu, who will retire in October after 20 years as principal engineer and building official.
