The two-story building will support 56 residents near Bellevue’s Crossroads area.

In late December, Silverado plans to open its second memory care community in the state, this one in Bellevue's Crossroads area at 14428 N.E. Eighth St.

“Having grown up on the Eastside, our expansion into Bellevue is very special to me,” said Silverado founder, President and CEO Loren Shook in a news release. “Our Bellingham community has operated at near full capacity since soon after it opened in 2016, and families have made many requests that we open a location farther south.”

The $17 million Bellevue facility is being built by Belotti + McHugh of Seattle and was designed by LRS Architects of Portland. Marathon Development of Issaquah is the developer and Silverado will operate the facility, which can support 56 residents in two levels. The owner is an LLC associated with Marathon and Silverado.

Andrew Montero, Marathon vice president, said they started the project about four years ago and brought on Silverado about six months ago. He said the development process was hampered by getting a conditional land use permit from the city, as well as some delay from the pandemic.

The 28,000-square-foot project was designed to meet the needs of those living with dementia by locating memory boxes outside each bedroom to help residents find their rooms. It also uses skylights, bay windows and atriums to let in the most natural light possible; Silverado says this can reduce depression, which can exacerbate or accelerate the symptoms of dementia. Other amenities include courtyards and walking paths, a bistro and a playground for visiting children.

Lori Pettit is executive director and administrator of the Bellevue community.

Irvine, California-based Silverado is a provider of memory care, assisted-living and hospice services. Its website shows 35 communities across the country, including the upcoming Bellevue facility and another under construction in Thousand Oaks, California.
