Schaufelberger

University of Washington professor and dean emeritus John Schaufelberger will be honored next week with the 2021 ASC Lifetime Achievement Award at the Associated Schools of Construction Annual Conference. Colleagues describe him as an accomplished scholar, servant leader and construction educator whose primary teaching focus centers on the student experience. He earned his Ph.D. in civil engineering and attended Harvard University on a fellowship to the Kennedy School of Government in 1986. Schaufelberger's career in academia began 48 years ago as an assistant professor at the United States Military Academy. Fourteen years later, he was promoted to director for the Department of Military Engineering at the U.S. Army Engineer School. After retiring from the Army, he joined UW's Department of Construction Management, where he continues as a faculty member and former administrator in the CM department and College of the Built Environments. Schaufelberger has also served on many boards, including the Associated General Contractors of Washington, AGC of Washington Education Foundation and American Council for Construction Education.
