Roofing materials giant GAF says it has produced the industry's first asphalt roofing shingles containing recycled material from post-consumer and post-manufacture waste shingles that may have otherwise been landfilled. The company states this breakthrough has significant implications for improving sustainability across the asphalt roofing supply chain. It says it was able to reclaim more than 90% of the waste shingle material, by weight, to reuse for new shingles without compromising product quality or performance. New Jersey-based GAF, a Standard Industries company, has three patents for the process.
