Swinerton uses a risk-reporting system to track accidents/incidents, injuries and near misses. After the initial incident investigation takes place, Swinerton safety personnel, superintendents or project managers are required to report any incidents resulting in property damage or injury as a risk alert. This risk-alert system distributes the report to leaders within the company. Much of the information is kept confidential; however, safety managers may access the system to view risk alerts from different areas of the company. It is a helpful tool to log accidents, track trends and help to develop methods to avoid similar occurrences from recurring. Swinerton has a related reporting system for near misses as well. The near-miss reporting system gives the user the opportunity to complete a guidance document on the near miss that occurred. Guidance documents are created to share lessons learned and are distributed across the company for use as toolbox talks or training materials. The guidance document does not contain specific information on any workers involved, or where the incident took place, so it can be shared with any employees without concern of putting any project teams in a bad light.
