The Seattle Department of Transportation yesterday announced it selected Kraemer North America to complete the final phase of repairs to the high rise span of the West Seattle Bridge. Kraemer performed emergency stabilization work on the bridge last year.
SDOT closed the high bridge early last year after inspectors found cracking issues. Kraemer then spent most of the year installing 10 miles of post-tensioned cables inside the concrete bridge’s hollow box girders and wrapping parts of the exterior with carbon fiber to stabilize it. Kraemer also replaced damaged bearings at the Pier 18 column. This emergency stabilization work cost about $20 million.
