CenturyLink Field slowly turning into Lumen Field

The large mobile crane is being used to change out graphics with the stadium’s name, including on the roof.

New signage is in place on the northeast corner of the stadium.

A large mobile crane has been at work, off and on again, for weeks at the former CenturyLink Field in Seattle. When it finally leaves, the stadium will have its new name — Lumen Field — spelled out on all four corners, on both roofs and in numerous locations inside.

So far, crews have been working on the roof to install the new graphics and have replaced at least one of the four lighted signs on the corners of the stadium.

A representative for the Seattle Seahawks wrote in an email that the goal is to have all exterior and internal branding finished by the start of the 2021 football season. The first preseason home game is Aug. 21 against the Denver Broncos and the first regular season home game is Sept. 19 against the Tennessee Titans.

Tube Art and US Electric are leading the team that's replacing the four corner signs, which are about 7.5 feet tall. Snyder Roofing, Creo Industrial Arts and Prime Electric are the team in charge of the roof letting. The rooftop letters in “LUMEN” stretch 47 feet, top to bottom, and the letters in “FIELD” are nearly 30 feet. SuperGraphics is also part of the team.

The stadium and the adjacent 325,000-square-foot multipurpose event center were renamed last fall following CenturyLink's rebrand to Lumen Technologies. The center is now called Lumen Field Event Center and is also getting new signage.

The stadium has been through a few name changes since it opened in 2002 as Seahawks Stadium. A naming rights deal was struck in 2004, with the stadium becoming Qwest Field. It was renamed CenturyLink Field in 2011, following CenturyLink's acquisition of Qwest Communications. A 2017 agreement extended the rights through 2033.

Washington State Public Stadium Authority owns the stadium.
