State seeks GC/CM to build $408M forensic hospital at Western State

The new 350-bed forensic hospital will be built on the existing Lakewood campus.

Mental health treatment has evolved greatly since Western State Hospital opened over 100 years ago in Lakewood, especially in the last two decades. Treatment for civilly committed patients is migrating from the hospital “mental wards” of the past to smaller non-institutional facilities, typically with 16-48 beds and based in communities near patients' families.
