Teamsters finally ratify new contract for concrete workers

Stoneway Concrete made a delivery last week as crews built new lanes near the southern end of Alaskan Way in Seattle.

Teamsters Local 174 members spent over four months on the picket line, and still didn't have a new contract when they went back to work in April. The union reported on Monday that a new contract was finally inked for more than 225 concrete workers at Cadman, Glacier Northwest/CalPortland, Salmon Bay Sand & Gravel and Stoneway Concrete. It wasn't clear if workers for two other companies that were being struck — Lehigh Cement and Gary Merlino Construction Co. — were part of that. Lehigh and Merlino had been bargaining separately with the union, although Merlino owns Stoneway.
