Monthly construction input prices dip slightly; still up 12.6% yearly

Prices for fabricated structural metals were up 16.6% over the year, but dropped 1% from August to September. Pictured, Scarsella Brothers crews are building a 6,000-square-foot equipment garage for the south portal operations building of the Seattle waterfront tunnel.

The Associated General Contractors of America says the construction industry is suffering the most from inflation, with prices of materials and services used in nonresidential construction up 12.6% in September from a year ago. It says that outpaces the 8.5% year-over-year rise in the overall producer price index for finished goods.
