West Seattle swing bridge gets repairs like its bigger sibling

The Spokane Street Bridge, shown swung open, has been reinforced with epoxy injections and carbon-fiber wrap.

Seattle Department of Transportation reports that its contractor last week finished injecting epoxy into cracks and wrapping carbon fiber around components of the swing bridge that carries Spokane Street across the East Duwamish Waterway in the shadow of the West Seattle Bridge. The epoxy and carbon fiber reinforce the lower bridge in the same way that they do for the upper bridge, which reopened in September after 2.5 years of repairs.
