Newhouse Building goes up in ‘smoke' prior to demolition

The Newhouse Building opened in 1934 as a temporary structure.

Passersby might have thought that the Irving R. Newhouse Building on the Capitol campus in Olympia was on fire last week, as crews from the Olympia Fire Department surrounded the building while white smoke poured out. They certainly would be doing a double-take this week as that same scenario plays out, again and again.
