Several construction companies from Oregon recently won AGC-WTW Construction Safety Excellence Awards. The winners were announced at the Associated General Contractors of America's annual convention last month in Las Vegas. The Oregon winners included: Taylor Northwest of Bend (first place, Heavy Division, under 400,000 worker hours); Slayden Constructors of Stayton (first place, Utility Infrastructure Division, under 200,000 hours); Whitaker Ellis Builders of Tigard (first place, Specialty Division, 175,000-325,000 hours); and Mid-Valley Commercial Construction of Salem (third place, Specialty Division, 175,000-325,000 hours). Greeley, Colorado-based Hensel Phelps won the Grand Award. Locally, Hensel Phelps's Bellevue office recently finished the new parking garage at the Puyallup Sounder station, and is working on the replacement Fawcett Elementary School in Tacoma, the SEA Gateway Project at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building at the University of Washington.
