UMC

Mechanical contractor UMC won a 2022 Safety Excellence Award from the Mechanical Contractors Association of America. The award, presented last month at the MCAA Annual Convention in Phoenix, is the third that UMC has won in the past five years from the association. The company took top honors in Category 4, which covers 450,001-1 million worker hours. UMC says it is constantly innovating new tactics and policies that allow it to grow positive safety program outcomes — including its “Pride-based Safety” program led by Kirk Baisch. This program has five principles: lead by example; own your work zone; do a 5-second visual risk assessment every 5 minutes; know when to stop; and engagement and inclusion.
