Three high school teachers from the Pacific Northwest are in the running for the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence. They are among 50 finalists nationwide who are now eligible to win five grand prizes of $100,000 or 20 additional prizes of $50,000. The teachers are Matthew Duerre of Enumclaw High School, Don Willson of Battle Ground High School and Steven Ratzlaff of James T. Hutchison High School in Fairbanks, Alaska. Winners will be announced in October. Over 1,000 applications were received this year for the contest, now in its seventh year. The contest recognizes outstanding instruction in skilled trades in U.S. public high schools that inspires students to learn a trade.
