Army Corps to replace massive miter gate at Chittenden Locks

Each miter gate leaf in the large lock weighs over 237 tons.

Boaters and others using the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks along the Lake Washington Ship Canal in Ballard might need to adjust their schedules beginning next month, as the Army Corps of Engineers will close the larger of the two locks to replace a pair of giant miter gate leaves.
