MOUNT VERNON — Skagit County's board of commissioners recently rejected the two bids it received to build an electric ferry serving Guemes Island from Anacortes.
The county rejected the bids because they were higher than available funds for the project. It says higher costs for construction materials and labor have pushed the project cost up about $13 million. That takes into account vessel construction, terminal modifications and shoreside battery charging stations.
