Core Plus Construction

Cornerstone General Contractors and Absher Construction have teamed with local trade unions to help fill the skilled labor shortage by engaging students via outreach efforts at Highline Public Schools. Both contractors have projects with Highline: Cornerstone is building the new Evergreen High School in White Center, and Absher is building the new Tyee High School in SeaTac. The contractors are partnering with educators from the Core Plus Construction program to introduce students to construction through hands-on learning. Core Plus offers pre-apprenticeships to students seeking construction career paths. As part of the program, Cornerstone and Absher on Thursday will host a group of 50 students who will visit the Northwest Carpenters Institute's facility in Burlington. Here, students will hear from veteran carpenters, participate in demonstrations, tour the facility, ask questions and make connections with industry professionals.
