BNBuilders is newly attached to the latest planned addition to the Lakeside School campus, at 14050 First Ave. N.E. The two-story academic building is being designed by LMN Architects, as the DJC reported last year.
The project will replace a soggy former softball field on the southwest corner of the 20-acre campus, just north of Northeast 140th Street. The private school values the project at some $60 million, to be entirely funded by alumni, student families and other donors.
LMN rates the future building at nearly 39,000 square feet. Construction is to be Type II-B, using steel, masonry and concrete. Ground work will begin this fall, with the building expected to open in time for the 2026-27 term.
About 60 new bike stalls will be created for the new building, to house classrooms for humanities and sciences, plus lounge areas and a small cafe. Rooftop solar panels are indicated
Design review wasn't required for the addition to the institutional master plan. No new surface parking is planned to the existing lots; nor is any increase to the school's population now planned.
Seneca Group is the project manager, for a team that also includes Coughlin Porter Lundeen, civil and structural engineer; Berger Partnership, landscape architect; Glumac, MEP engineer; Tree Solutions, arborist; Stantec, acoustic engineer; Dark Light Design, lighting; and Bush Roed & Hitchings, surveyor.
LMN also designed the last new building for the school, the Paul G. Allen Athletics Center, a decade ago.
