Spokane gets $44M to rebuild after fires

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) announced Friday that Spokane County will receive $44.1 million in federal funding to help rebuild the Medical Lake and Elk communities in the aftermath of the August 2023 Gray and Oregon Road wildfires.

The funds come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery program, as part of a nearly $12 billion nationwide allocation announced this week. The disaster aid package passed by Congress on Dec. 21 allocated additional resources for the program.
