SEATTLE — State Route 520 between Interstate-5 and Montlake Boulevard was scheduled to be closed nightly yesterday through Thursday as crews with contractor Skanska complete prep work on and around the Portage Bay Bridge.
This week's work includes removing trees and vegetation, potholing for underground utilities, placing construction work zone barriers and lane striping as part of the Washington State Department of Transportation's $1.38 billion SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project. This includes building two parallel, seismically resilient bridges to replace the existing Portage Bay Bridge, and adding a landscaped lid near Roanoke Park.
