Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One is seeking bids for construction of a replacement facility for Fire Station 51, located at 6711 Kimball Drive.

Bids are due Sept. 30 for the estimated $18.3 million station. A notice appeared in the DJC on Tuesday.

Bremerton-based Rice Fergus Miller is the architect for the two-story, 22,000-square-foot facility. It is set to replace the current station, which was built in 1979 and is the busiest station in the district.

The DJC reported in May that the new station, featuring five vehicle bays and gabled roofs, is designed to accommodate additional personnel and modern emergency apparatus.

Work will also replace an existing fuel island, add new stormwater facilities, increase parking, and reconfigure the station's entrance.

A new pocket park is also planned for a site adjacent to the new building along Kimball Drive, with a tribute to emergency responders, along with landscaping, benches and art.

The replacement station is funded by an $80 million capital improvement bond passed by voters in 2022.

A non-mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held at the site on Sept. 4, at 9 am.
