Developers, community members and project partners recently celebrated the topping out of a new 120-bed nursing facility for the Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center in Shoreline.
Located at 15230 15th Ave. N.E., the three-story, 130,000-square-foot building is being delivered through a public-private partnership with the state Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) and Public Facilities Group. PFG's website puts the project cost at $206.8 million.
Anchor Health Properties is providing development and real estate planning services, including master planning, community outreach, permitting and entitlement, as well as design and construction oversight.
The project team includes DLR Group | Salus Architecture, architect; AHBL, engineer; and Kiewit Building Group, design-build contractor.
“This milestone reflects both progress and purpose,” said Eric Clayton, director of Construction with Anchor. “Our entire project team is committed to delivering a facility that expands care while prioritizing comfort, connection, and dignity for residents. The engagement from the community and our partners has been exceptional and continues to guide the work we do every day on this site.”
The facility will have resident rooms with adjacent toilet and bathing facilities; shared common areas and dining rooms; meeting and multi-purpose rooms for resident recreation, therapy, activities and operations; and access to outside porches, patios and serene gardens. Anchor says this environment was designed to prioritize the comfort and well-being of residents, ensuring they have spaces that promote connection, relaxation and engagement with nature.
There will also be individual and shared spaces for program managers and nursing, custodial, and maintenance staff; storage space for equipment and supplies, including wheelchairs and laundry carts; and staff and visitor parking with canopy structures for photovoltaic panels.
The Fircrest campus will also receive infrastructure enhancements, including upgraded site utilities, street and sidewalk improvements, as well as a new, separate 6,400-square-foot laundry facility.
Scheduled to open in November 2027, the building is designed to be Net Zero Capable and is anticipated to achieve LEED Silver certification.
Established in 1959, Fircrest School provides support to about 200 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential setting. The nursing facility provides health care and activities to persons who have unique medical needs. And the Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/ID) provides individualized habilitative services.
