A duo of large buildings has been demolished at Inglemoor to make way for a new 200,000-square-foot building.

The first phase of the replacement of Inglemoor High School in Kenmore has begun.

The DJC last reported on the $100 million project nearly a year ago, when the Northshore School District issued a SEPA determination of non-significance for the initial phase of work last February.

Construction followed in June. Seattle's BNBuilders is the general contractor. Kirkland firm Hutteball + Oremus is the architect.

Inglemoor High School is located at 15500 Simonds Road N.E. and serves nearly 1,500 students. It includes several buildings. The campus dates to 1964 and was remodeled in 1998.

The new building is designed by Kirkland architecture firm Hutteball + Oremus.

The school is being replaced in phases, so that operations can continue on site during construction.

Phase I calls for the demolition of two large academic buildings, two small buildings containing lockers, and a planetarium, to make room for a new 200,000-square-foot, two-story school.

The new building will house a large commons area and 20 classrooms — 10 general, eight science, and two science labs. The Phase I work scope also includes the construction of an outdoor plaza that will connect the new commons to the school's track and field, as well as the preparation of the infrastructure for future phases.

Recently completed work includes the demolition of the old buildings, mechanical upgrades to existing buildings, and improvements to existing athletic and special education spaces.

The initial phase of work is expected to be done by next summer. The Phase I budget is $100 million. Funding comes from a 2022 bond measure. The bond also funded the development of a master plan for the entire replacement project.

According to the Northshore School District's website, future phases of the replacement will prioritize reorganization of the school's entry and administration area, reducing the number of portables, building additional permanent classrooms, building a new gym and athletics support spaces, and renewing the turf field and track.

The Northshore School District was founded in 1959, when Woodinville and Bothell's school districts were consolidated. It spans 60 square miles, including Bothell, Woodinville and Kenmore, and encompasses 36 schools.

Inglemoor is the only public high school in Kenmore.
