New trench rules start this week

OLYMPIA — New rules for contractors performing trench excavations began on Monday.

Contractors must now submit a work plan prior to the start of digging. New plan requirements include safety and health procedures, hazards, and protective systems planned for each trenching project, such as sloping, shorin, and shielding to prevent cave-ins.
