Generations Place in Langley, Whidbey Island, has 14 affordable units.

Generations Place in Langley, Whidbey Island, cut the ribbon on June 9 on its way to welcoming its first residents into the permanently affordable homes.

Among those cutting the ribbon were Frank Simpson, Island Roots Housing board member; Ken Dubell, superintendent for GenCap Construction; Rose Hughes, managing director for Island Roots Housing; Jack Iseman, GenCap project manager; Rob Warnaca, president of GenCap; and Meredith Penny, director of community planning at the city of Langley.

Located at 631 Second St., Generations Place consists of 14 two- and three-bedroom rental units.

City, construction and development leaders all held scissors to cut the ribbon on Generations Place in Langley, Whidbey Island.

According to developer and property owner, Island Roots Housing, the construction features energy efficient heat pumps, low-flow plumbing, solar energy offsets, heat recovery ventilation systems, durable long-life materials, and water conservation measures. Onsite parking consists of six EV charging stations. Construction took less than eight months from groundbreaking to completion.

Occupation eligibility is based on combined household income serving households with up to 60% and up to 80% area median income for our region. According to Island Roots Housing website, rental rates are individualized, “based on the funding source and the size of the unit.”

The project team includes: GenCap Construction Company, general contractor; Harmsen, civil engineer; Année Structural Engineering, structural engineer; Hunt Engineering Services, mechanical/electrical/plumbing. Project management was provided by Island Roots Housing, Fred Safstrom, and Christine Kehoe. Ad-West Realty Services Inc. manages leasing and ongoing property management.
