Founded in 1996, the Tacoma-based commercial general contractor says its growth has been driven by a focus on integrity, craftsmanship and lasting client relationships.

J.C. Richards Construction Co. marked its 30th anniversary June 26, celebrating three decades of building, renovating and collaborating on projects across the Puget Sound region.

Founded in 1996, the Tacoma-based commercial general contractor says its growth has been driven by a focus on integrity, craftsmanship and lasting client relationships. The company's portfolio spans commercial spaces, tenant improvements, historic renovations and community-oriented projects, with an emphasis on quality work and strong partnerships.

“Thirty years in construction is not something accomplished alone,” said John Richards, principal of J.C. Richards Construction. “We are grateful to our employees, clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers who have trusted us and contributed to our success over the years.”

The company says that reaching this milestone reflects the trust of its clients, the dedication of its team, and the strong relationships built with subcontractors, partners and project teams over the years.

Notable in the company’s portfolio is the major remodel of the new Commencement Bank Headquarters in Tacoma.

The company has built a notable portfolio of regional projects, including the buildout of the new Commencement Bank Headquarters at 1313 Broadway in Tacoma. Completed in 2025, the project called for the major remodel of 17,000 square feet — the entire fourth floor — of the downtown building. Designed by Ferguson Architecture of Tacoma, the project was honored with a 2026 Excellent 10 Award by the Tacoma-Pierce County Economic Development Board.

Today, J.C. Richards Construction employs 15 professionals and continues to serve clients throughout Washington.

As the company enters its fourth decade, J.C. Richards Construction says it remains committed to the values it was founded on and its motto: Building with Integrity Since 1996.

J.C. Richards Construction serves clients throughout the Puget Sound region, providing preconstruction, construction management, general contracting and renovation services for a diverse range of commercial clients.
