Can AI be used to speed the permitting process?

  • A new AI tool showed 87% accuracy in finding completeness issues and 92% accuracy in assessing design compliance.
  • The Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) is testing whether artificial intelligence can help streamline the often lengthy permitting process.

    In a recent proof-of-value study led by the city's Innovation & Performance team in partnership with SDCI, officials evaluated an AI-powered prescreening tool developed by CivCheck. The tool is designed to review permit applications before submission, identifying missing documents and potential code compliance issues that often trigger multiple rounds of corrections.
