SEATTLE — For what's generally called the UW Laundry property, immediately west of Mount Baker Station, an affordable housing project has been brewing for many years. The city owns about 3 acres there, and previously selected El Centro de la Raza and Mercy Housing Northwest to develop around 438 units in four midrise buildings. The project, designed by Runberg Architecture Group, will be phased.
As the DJC reported last year, Walsh Construction is the builder. And it's now at work on the initial demo at 2901 27th Ave. S. (the north site); that permit was issued in June. The DJC spotted the activity over the past weekend, as rubble was being carted away.
