Washington workers to be honored for lifesaving actions

Fifteen Washington workers who took extraordinary action to save lives while on the job will be recognized with Lifesaving Awards at the Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Conference in Tacoma on Wednesday.

The honorees include two Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife employees who came to the aid of a man who had fallen 60 feet into a canyon while returning from placing wildlife monitoring equipment. The man suffered severe spinal injuries. One worker stayed with him and provided first aid while the other hiked through rugged terrain to summon help. The injured man was later airlifted for treatment.
