US Steel approves plan for $3B mill

PITTSBURGH — U.S. Steel's board of directors has approved nearly $3 billion in funding for a new hot strip mill at the company's Mon Valley Works' Edgar Thomson Plant near Pittsburgh.

The project will replace aging equipment with modern steelmaking technology and increase annual production capacity from about 2.2 million tons to 3.5 million tons.
