Crews on Monday are expected to start digging out 15,000 cubic yards of roadbed to help stabilize Kummer bridge. The excavation will be up to 30 feet deep and 300 feet long. Dirt will be replaced with polystyrene or a retaining wall backfilled with gravel.

THE HISTORIC KUMMER bridge over the Green River Gorge is closed for major repairs for the first time in its 80-year history.
