Engineers' challenge: Float a net sculpture above a city

  • The rope structure holding the sculpture was designed to withstand the stress of riggers climbing on it, winds of up to 95 miles per hour, and heavy rain and ice.

    Clayton Binkley and Hans-Erik Blomgren have worked on some innovative projects as structural engineers in Arup's Seattle office, from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation headquarters to the seismic retrofit of King Street Station.
