Linda Heights Park

Kent's Parks Department earlier this month officially re-opened Linda Heights Park at South 248th Street and 35th Avenue South, west of Military Road.

The park was renovated and new play equipment was added, along with a basketball court, additional plantings and extensive regrading.

The park, which sits on property owned by the Kent Public Works Department for a sewage pump station, experienced high levels of vandalism and general neglect until just a few years ago.

The city retained Bruce Dees & Associates to prepare a master plan with the help of an ad hoc committee. That process was followed by the preparation of construction documents and construction.

Part of the park renovation included a city-sponsored reclamation art project designed by high school students under the guidance of artist Ruthie Tomlinson.

The piece, called "A Wacky Bird Refuge," features hand-built birdhouses which were created by a group of developmentally-disabled youth working with Tomlinson and the high school students.
