Bainbridge Island's Kids Discovery Museum, known as KiDiMu, provides a play and learning environment for children in a space that demonstrates sustainable design and construction.
Located at the corner of state Route 305 and Winslow Way, KiDiMu is part of the Island Gateway cultural center.
The 5,000-square foot building has a green roof that insulates the building and reduces site runoff. The landscaping uses native plants, bioswales, a rain garden and pervious paving.
Inside is a pirate-themed treehouse with a slide that leads into a kid-sized version of a town with a doctor's office, bank, grocery store and ferry. The museum recently won LEED silver certification for both commercial interiors, and the core and shell.
