Seattle Children’s Building Hope is a 330,000-square-foot, eight-story building on Sand Point Way Northeast.
Building Hope houses the emergency department, critical care unit and 80 single rooms for cancer and critical patients.
A new Adolescent and Young Adult cancer unit has 16 inpatient beds for teens and young adults, as well as a therapy gym, patient lounge and rooftop terrace.
The building has a green roof, dual fuel condensing boilers, rain gardens and CO2 monitors in high occupancy spaces. These efforts have cut energy use by 47 percent and water use by 28 percent compared to similar hospitals.
During construction, materials came from local sources and debris was recycled.
The project was recently awarded LEED gold by the U.S. Green Building Council.
