The Main Apartments + Lofts has opened at 15367 Main St. E. in Sumner.
To mitigate the visual impact of a 108-unit mixed-use development in a small town, the project incorporated several small-scale buildings rather than a single podium-style structure. Seven two- and three-story buildings are organized around an internal woonerf an open space shared by humans and cars. Slanted roofs, familiar materials and open spaces were used to preserve a small-town feel.
Brick was used on street-level facades to help connect with nearby historic buildings.
Residential amenities include a lounge with a kitchen, private plaza with fire pit, a fitness center, community garden plots and a dog run.
The development also has more than 1,500 square feet of retail space, with a flexible design for some street-level spaces that can evolve from residential to commercial in the future.
Developer, contractor: Tarragon
Architect: Tiscareno Associates
Civil engineer: Contour Engineering
Structural engineer: CT Engineering
Landscape design: Thomas Rengstorf & Associates
