Mount Vernon Library Commons is an all-electric new public library, community hub, and parking garage at 208 W. Kincaid St. in the city’s downtown.
The four level, 133,000-square-foot building was one of the first publicly bid projects in the U.S. to pursue Passive House certification.
The commons houses a library, community center, and commercial kitchen on the first level, with three levels of structured parking above.
The library includes dedicated children’s and teen rooms. Ground-level spaces include a community room and areas for community programs and youth services. A rooftop terrace has Skagit River views.
The parking structure is the largest public electric vehicle charging station in the U.S. with infrastructure for 200 chargers.
Mount Vernon Library Commons yields 80% less energy usage than the old city library, which was built in the 1950s.
Developer: City of Mount Vernon
