Pasco School District is calling for bids to construct Ellen Ochoa Middle School, which is estimated to cost about $13 million.
|
The school has been designed by the architects and engineers at SCM Consultants of Kennewick. It is the newest in the firm's development of school prototypes that employ cost-cutting strategies that reduce both construction and operational costs, providing for low maintenance costs and high energy efficiency.
School district officials say SCM's prototype designs have helped it save over $6 million in design fees, construction costs and reduced escalation costs in constructing four new elementary schools completed over the past two years. Ellen Ochoa Middle School will be a 109,000-square-foot, partial two-story masonry and wood-frame structure with a large science, technology, music, commons and gymnasium complex.
The facility, which will serve a large and growing Hispanic population, has been named for Hispanic astronaut Ellen Ochoa and will have a space exploration theme.
The Ochoa bid package is available from SCM at 7601 W. Clearwater, Kennewick, WA 99336. The firm can be contacted at (509) 783-1625 or via e-mail at MikeB@scm-ae.com. Bids are due Nov. 15.
