This base isolator was installed at the Emergency Operations Center — Washington state’s first base isolated building — in Camp Murray.

It’s not enough for some buildings — such as hospitals — merely to survive a major earthquake. Performance-based seismic design strives to produce buildings that will be immediately operational, even after the “Big One.”
