SSA starts review for $500M terminal

  • The marine terminal at Cherry Point in Whatcom County would load coal, minerals and grain for transport to Asia.
  • Seattle-based SSA Marine said Monday it has started the environmental review process to build a multi-commodity dry bulk marine terminal at Cherry Point in Whatcom County. Construction is estimated to cost $500 million.

    The Gateway Pacific Terminal would be used to load coal, minerals, grain and other items onto ships for transport to Asia. SSA said it hopes to start construction in early 2013 and open the terminal in 2015.
