OLYMPIA — The Washington Department of Ecology said salmon will have better habitat with help from a $332,000 penalty settlement with Cooke Aquaculture after the collapse of its floating pen near Cypress Island in 2017.
In press materials Ecology said the settlement required that part of the fine go to an environmental project for regional salmon enhancement or habitat restoration, and part to the department's Coastal Protection Fund.
