Seattle's new tree law requires street trees for new developments

The new ordinance will protect 175,000 trees across Seattle, including these London plane trees at Occidental Park in Pioneer Square.

On Monday, the Seattle City Council, in partnership with Mayor Bruce Harrell, passed a new tree protection ordinance. The legislation now heads to the mayor for his signature and will take effect 60 days after it's approved.
